Traffic Signal Design

In the United States, the installation of traffic signals at existing and proposed intersections is controlled by specific regulations of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the engineering judgment of the professionals involved in interpreting the findings of a Traffic Signal Warrant Analysis. Arc Design Resources provides civil engineering expertise in the preparation of Traffic Signal Warrant Analyses at public intersections and private driveways to assess existing and proposed traffic conditions at a specified intersection.

Our staff of civil engineers will successfully navigate the approval process required by the local jurisdictional agency. This approval process can be challenging and call for the presentation of the benefits of a traffic signal control device to ultimately convince the governing body that the implementation of this type of control will benefit the traveling public. Furthermore, Arc Design Resources stays in step with the evolving standards communicated by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and the regulatory requirements placed on intersections by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Once the installation or modification of a traffic signal is approved by the relevant jurisdictional agency, the experienced civil engineers of Arc Design Resources will prepare comprehensive Traffic Signal Plans including the details and specifications required by the governing body for all requisite features of the traffic signal equipment. These construction plans will include the signal structures, roadway signing and striping, and the required method of detection.
